Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Council to foster closer collaboration between traditional authorities and the Ghana Police Service, allowing chiefs to serve as allies in community policing.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the call during his historic courtesy visit to the Police Headquarters on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

The Asantehene stressed the need for deeper, institutionalised cooperation between the police and traditional leaders to enhance security and community trust.

He further advised that police personnel should be trained to understand the customs and traditions of the communities they serve, noting that cultural awareness could improve engagement and conflict resolution.

“I have come to join you [IGP] for deeper institutionalised collaboration between traditional authorities and the Ghana Police Service. Let chiefs serve as allies in community policing. Let officers be trained to understand the customs of the people they protect.

“Let dialogue proceed, deployment and mediation proceed, not confrontation. This is not softness but intelligence,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reiterated.
