The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has revealed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has formally submitted comprehensive reports on the violent incidents that marred Ghana’s general elections in 2020 and 2024.

According to the Interior Minister, the report marks a major step forward in government efforts to address electoral violence and restore confidence in the country’s democratic process.

“I have just been informed by the IGP that he has submitted full reports on the electoral violence that occurred in 2020 and 2024,” Mr. Muntaka said during his encounter at the “Government Accountability Series” organised by the Government Communications wing on Monday, 14 July 2025.

The “Government Accountability Series” is a platform that affords sector ministers the opportunity to provide updates on their ministry’s mid-year sector performance.

The initiative, according to the Presidency Communications, forms part of efforts to deepen transparency and accountability in governance.

The 2020 and 2024 elections were both marred by pockets of unrest, including incidents of shootings, ballot box snatching, and violent confrontations between political supporters and security forces. Several deaths and injuries were recorded, prompting widespread calls for accountability and reform.

The submission of the reports by the IGP follows demands from civil society organisations, political stakeholders, and the international community for transparent investigations and decisive action to address electoral violence in the country.
