The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has cautioned individuals or groups planning to foment trouble before, during, or after the Akwatia by-election to desist, warning that the police will act decisively against anyone who breaches the law.

The by-election is scheduled for September 2, 2025.

Mr Yohuno assured the public of maximum security, stressing that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful, fair, and incident-free exercise.

To demonstrate the readiness of the Service, the IGP, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, visited the High-Risk Operation Training Centre at Akyerematen in the Eastern Region to assess the preparedness of officers earmarked for deployment.

The team inspected operational drills and logistics, emphasising readiness to respond swiftly to any security threats during the polls.

Speaking to the media, the IGP said the police would maintain professionalism, impartiality, and discipline while on duty, assuring that every measure had been put in place to protect voters, electoral officers, political parties, and observers.

He stressed that the police would not tolerate violence, intimidation, or any conduct that could undermine the credibility of the election.

“We have brought men here, and they are trained on how to handle arms. As we are going to the election ground, we decided to come and sharpen our skills for the by-election.

“Today, they will move to Akwatia and assess all the threats, just to let the country know that we are ready for the election. All the threats we hear from social media have given us the room to prepare and to remove fear from the electorate in Akwatia that nobody can come here to cause any trouble,” Mr Yohuno stated.
