Indonesia extends condolences to Ghana over fatal helicopter crash

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has extended its deepest condolences to the Republic of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash in Akofrom-Adansi, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two high-ranking government officials and members of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed,50, were killed in the crash along with six others.

In an official tribute message addressed to President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama the Indonesian government through its Ministry of Defence, the Indonesian Embassy in Abuja, and the Honorary Consulate in Ghana expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP), Minister of Environment, two military personnel, and four other passengers on board.

“This heartbreaking event has deeply shaken us. We mourn alongside the people of Ghana during this difficult time,” part of the statement read.

The tribute, signed by H.E. Paskal A. B. Rois, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, praised the late officials as patriots who served Ghana with distinction and honour. It also emphasized that their passing represents not only a national tragedy but a loss to the entire African continent and Indonesia as a partner nation.

“These distinguished sons of Ghana served with a true spirit of patriotism. Their loss is a great loss to the African continent and to nations like Indonesia that share strong diplomatic and developmental bonds with Ghana,” the message continued.

Indonesia reaffirmed its unwavering support and solidarity with Ghana in this time of national mourning and extended prayers to the bereaved families, hoping they find strength and comfort amid their grief.

“May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

The crash, which occurred in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, has been described by Ghanaian authorities as one of the most tragic air disasters in the country’s recent history. Investigations into the cause of the incident are currently underway.

Indonesia and Ghana have enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations rooted in shared values of cooperation, mutual respect, and development. This gesture of solidarity is a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations.
