Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has launched the 2025 edition of his Annual Free Eye and Breast Cancer Screening programme, aimed at promoting early detection and preventive healthcare in the constituency.
The initiative, which runs from Thursday, 9 October to Tuesday, 14 October 2025, is being held across all major electoral areas in Asawase. It provides residents with free medical consultations, screenings and health advice focused on eye conditions and breast cancer.
The programme, now a regular feature on the constituency’s health calendar, brings together medical professionals and volunteers to serve hundreds of residents daily. Mobile medical teams have been deployed to designated centres, including Dogo Moro Park, Grace Baptist Church, and Imam Haruna Mosque, where services are offered from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
Mr Mubarak said the initiative forms part of efforts to improve access to healthcare for constituents, particularly those who may lack the resources for regular medical check-ups. He noted that many people delay seeking medical attention due to limited awareness of early symptoms, adding that the screenings aim to address this gap and encourage preventive care.
Several beneficiaries welcomed the intervention, noting that it provided them with an opportunity to undergo comprehensive health checks within their communities.
The annual screening initiative continues to expand its reach each year, underscoring the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare in improving community health outcomes.
