President John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of an investigative board of enquiry to uncover the cause of the helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in Adansi Akrofuom on August 6 2025.
The President delivered a sombre national address on Thursday night revealing that, the Ghana Armed Forces had initiated “a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the crash”. He also added that both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder have been retrieved.
“This tragedy demands answers, and we owe it to the victims and their families to find them,” the President said.”

The helicopter crash killed prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Mohammed. The crash is one of the deadliest air disasters in Ghana’s recent history involving high-ranking government officials.
The President noted that the government is working closely with bereaved families to facilitate the identification of bodies and the final rites. All eight bodies have been recovered.
No timeline for the release of the findings has been announced yet.
