The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance to appear before it over a dispute with the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) concerning unpaid salary arrears.

In an urgent notice dated January 14, 2026, the Commission said it had received a notice of intended industrial action from JUSAG, dated January 12 and served on the Commission on January 13, 2026.

JUSAG is demanding payment of eight months’ salary arrears covering the period from January to August 2025.

According to the NLC, the notice from JUSAG expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in settling the arrears, prompting the association to signal its intention to embark on industrial action.

In response, the Commission has formally written to the Judicial Secretary and the Ministry of Finance, requesting them to provide an update on the status of the workers’ demands within three working days of receipt of the letter.

Exercising its powers under Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the National Labour Commission has summoned all parties to appear before it on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. for a hearing on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Commission has advised the Judicial Service Staff Association to suspend any intended industrial action and instead submit to the Commission’s intervention by appearing at the scheduled hearing.

The NLC’s intervention is aimed at resolving the dispute amicably and ensuring industrial harmony within the Judicial Service.
