The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition says the country’s current power supply capacity is adequate to meet existing demand, even during peak hours.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Head of Communications, Mr. Richmond Rockson, the Ministry responded to demands by the Minority Caucus in Parliament, saying there is adequate electricity generation from the power stations, and therefore no need to provide a load management schedule.
The Minority, at a press conference in Parliament, called for the publication of a load management timetable to help electricity consumers plan their activities in light of recent power outages across parts of the country.
The Ministry’s statement explained that, while the government inherited an extremely challenging distribution and transmission system, it has continued to take steps to permanently resolve these issues.
“The current power generation capacity is sufficient to meet peak demand; hence, there is no basis for a load-shedding timetable at this time,” the statement emphasized.
It added that the government remains committed to providing reliable electricity to power consumers and assured the public that technical issues and inefficiencies within the distribution networks are being addressed.
