President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a heightened response to tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, after receiving a security briefing upon his return from a state visit to Singapore.
The President spoke by telephone with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, during his trip to discuss measures to end the conflict and restore peace between the Gonja and Brifor communities, according to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP).
As part of the effort, a government delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, has been sent to meet the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders in the area to support mediation and reconciliation.
Security in the locality has been reinforced with the deployment of additional police and military personnel.
President Mahama urged all parties to support the initiatives underway to end the conflict and restore normalcy.
He directed the delegation to work with the regional security council, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to promote dialogue, resolve outstanding disputes peacefully, and uphold law and order.
