The President, John Dramani Mahama, has called for the immediate reinstatement of the 64 radio stations recently shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA) over regulatory issues.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, June 12, 2025, President Mahama directed the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, to work with the NCA to swiftly restore the broadcasting rights of the affected stations.

While acknowledging the importance of regulatory compliance, the President emphasised the need to uphold media freedom. He cautioned that shutting down radio stations while they work to resolve their documentation poses a threat to freedom of expression in the country.

President Mahama further instructed the Minister to agree on a reasonable deadline with the NCA, allowing the stations time to regularize their licences without being taken off air in the interim.
