A 50-year-old man, Francis Donkor, has been arrested in Nkwanta for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition believed to be linked to recent rioting in the area.
The arrest occurred on Friday, August 1, 2025, at around 6:15 p.m., when a joint team of police and military officers carried out an intelligence-led operation near King’s Filling Station Down.
The operation followed a tip-off that individuals connected to violent disturbances in Nkwanta and surrounding areas were hiding weapons. The security team quickly surrounded the area to prevent escape and to ensure public safety.

During a search of the premises, officers found two single-barrel guns and four AAA cartridges in the suspect’s room.
Francis Donkor was immediately arrested and taken to the police station. He is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The weapons have been taken as evidence for further investigation and possible court action.
The Ghana Police Service has reminded the public that possessing firearms without authorization is a serious crime and has warned against involvement in violent activities.
