The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has dismissed media reports suggesting that former Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been cleared of corruption allegations following investigations conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

‎In a public notice issued on Tuesday August 19, 2025, the OSP said some media outlets had wrongly reported that the FBI found “no evidence of corruption” or that Ms. Dapaah had been “cleared.” According to the OSP, these claims misrepresent its Half-Yearly Report, which only stated that no direct and immediate evidence of corruption was found. The office stressed that this legal standard is different from the blanket statements being circulated in the media.

‎The OSP explained that while no immediate corruption evidence was established, investigations uncovered strong indications of suspected money laundering and financial structuring. These offences fall under the mandate of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

‎The case was first referred to EOCO under its previous leadership but was returned without action. The docket has now been resubmitted to EOCO at the request of its new leadership.

‎The OSP urged media houses to report accurately and responsibly, warning against misleading interpretations of official documents, especially on sensitive national matters.
