Media and watchdog institutions have been encouraged to continue to hold government accountable for their actions.

Though the media might not always agree, they have been urged to always respect the role they play in strengthening the nation.

Delivering his new year message to Ghanaians today, 1st January, 2026, the first gentleman of the land, President John Dramani Mahama said the media’s voice is needed to ensure a vibrant democracy.

“To our civil society, media partners and watchdog institutions, continue to hold us accountable. A vibrant democracy needs your critical voice,” he noted.

President Mahama also urged public servants to serve with integrity, efficiency and dedication as the people’s trust in government depends on their daily conduct.
