More than twenty young persons who were rescued from an alleged job scam and human trafficking operation linked to fake employment offers in Ho, in the Volta Region have been taken through security awareness training by the Misornu Safety Centre.

The rescued victims, mostly aged between 20 and 25 years, were taken through an ‘Everyday Safety’ and ‘Security Awareness’ session, aimed at helping them understand how deceptive recruitment schemes operate and how to protect themselves from similar threats in the future.

The engagement took place at the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters in Accra, following recent media reports about the rescue of more than one hundred young people who had been lured from various parts of the country under the pretext of securing jobs with a company identified by the victims as QNET.

The Executive Director of MISORNU Safety Centre, DCOP (Rtd) David Eklu while addressing the victims, explained that MISORNU Safety Centre is a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation focused on promoting a proactive “Safety-First mindset and culture,” particularly among young people.

He stressed that “Everyday safety is enhanced by learning how to make smart choices—through awareness, asking questions, and seeking advice from the right persons or institutions.

DCOP (Rtd) David Eklu asked young people to be cautious and verify all job and travel offers through credible and traceable sources before making any financial commitments or embarking on journeys. He also advised them to prioritize their personal safety, by asking critical questions, sharing information with trusted family members or community leaders, and seeking guidance from recognised institutions when in doubt.

DCOP (Rtd) Eklu encouraged the survivors to treat their experiences as a learning opportunity and to actively educate their peers, warning that silence, secrecy, and rushed decisions often make young people vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

Over the past two weeks, the Police Intelligence Directorate of the Ghana Police Service has rescued more than 100 young persons aged between 20 and 35 from two separate locations in Ho. According to the victims, they were lured through social media platforms including Facebook and TikTok with promises of employment, online learning opportunities in foreign universities, opportunities to join foreign football clubs, and the sale of products described as CHI PENDANT and other QNET-related items.

Some of the survivors disclosed that they paid amounts ranging between GHS 10,000 and GHS 15,000, often without informing family members or trusted contacts, before travelling abruptly to Ho. DCOP (Rtd) Eklu commended officers of the Police Intelligence Directorate for their swift intervention, describing their actions as life-saving. He praised the professionalism with which the victims were handled, including the provision of care and the coordination of their safe reunion with their families.

MISORNU Safety Centre used the opportunity to renew its call for stronger public awareness on job scams, trafficking tactics, and everyday personal security, particularly among young people who are increasingly targeted through digital platforms
