The Majority and Minority in Parliament have called for an independent investigation into the shooting of protesters at Ejura leading to the death of two persons.
They said the use of excessive force by the security agencies in controlling unarmed civilians must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
The MPs who called for calm at Ejura made the statement on the floor of Parliament following the shooting of some protesters at Ejura yesterday.
The MP for Ejura Sekyedumase, Mohammed Bawa Braimah said the murder represents another dark day in the history of the country’s democracy.
Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalgacalled on the Security Agencies to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens to demonstrate.
He urged the Speaker to institute a parliamentary inquiry into the issue if Government delays in setting up a Committee.
Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh said what happened should not be interpreted as state killing of citizens. He called on the Security Agencies to institute an investigation and punish those found culpable in the shooting of the unarmed civilians.
Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka while calling on residents to remain calm called on the security agencies to stop taking the peace currently being enjoyed for granted.
