The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) have cautioned drivers on the Accra–Aflao highway to adhere strictly to speed limits ahead of the Easter holidays. Authorities are emphasizing the need for caution to prevent accidents during the high-traffic period.
A sensitization exercise, took place along the busy Accra–Aflao route, on March 30 2026 as part of a broader national initiative to bolster road safety through education and the strict enforcement of traffic laws, by focusing on these areas, the NRSA and the MTTD aim to significantly decrease the number of accidents and casualties on the road.
Speaking to the media during the exercise Simbiat Wiredu, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NRSA, stressed on the need for drivers to adhere to the safety rules and regulations whiles driving during the festive period
“The National Road Safety is saying that for this Easter period and beyond, you have to be a safe driver, defensive driver. You have to comply with all the road traffic regulations because there are penalties. At the end of the day if you defy the regulations you will be arrested, and you will pay the penalties.”
The authorities said the sensitization exercise seeks to curb the rising trend of road crashes and fatalities, particularly during holiday periods when traffic volumes surge.
