Legal practitioner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team member, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, has called on the management of MultiChoice Ghana to provide greater clarity on the pricing challenges it faces in determining subscription rates.
His comments follow a directive issued by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr Samuel Nartey George, instructing the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend MultiChoice Ghana’s broadcasting licence if it fails to reduce its subscription fees by 7 August 2025.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s current affairs programme Breakfast Daily on Monday, 4 August 2025, Mr Adawudu urged MultiChoice to engage constructively with the Ministry to address the concerns raised.
He emphasised the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding in resolving the dispute.
“For me, I think we expect that as the Minister has said, MultiChoice should be able to persuade him by clearly communicating the challenges they face in terms of pricing structures, operational costs, and what it takes to run their services,” he stated.
Mr Adawudu also encouraged the Minister to consider the matter from a business point of view.
“The Minister should also try to put himself in the shoes of the service provider. If he were the owner of DStv or any other operator, how would he respond to such demands? These issues must be well articulated and explained so he understands,” he reiterated.
