The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nabdam, Mr. Francis Tobig, has officially commissioned a newly installed solar power system for the ICT Centre in Kongo in the Upper East Region, bringing a significant boost to digital learning in the area. The project, fully funded by MONDO, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Estonia, is aimed at ensuring consistent electricity supply to enhance digital learning and ICT access in the district.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Tobig highlighted the importance of ICT in modern education and development, stating that the investment reflects government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in rural areas.

“This project will ensure uninterrupted access to ICT tools for our students and youth. The ICT Centre has faced numerous challenges due to unstable power supply, but with this solar system, our students and youth can now have uninterrupted access to learning resources. We, as a government, are grateful to MONDO and the MP for the partnership,” he said.

The Director of the Kongo Development Association (KODA), Mr. Victor More, highlighted MONDO’s broader impact in the district. He acknowledged the organization’s commitment to promoting development through education, women’s empowerment, and skills training.

“MONDO has been a true partner in our development journey. Beyond education, they have also supported initiatives that empower women and build vocational skills among the youth,” Mr. More added.

The Human Resource Officer at the Nabdam District Education Directorate, Mr. Daniel Ayamga, also commended MONDO for their continuous collaboration and investment in the district’s human capital. He called for sustained partnership to expand development interventions in other deprived communities.

The project sum of GH¢74,820.00 was funded through MONDO and supported by the MP for Nabdam through his Common Fund. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda of promoting renewable energy in underserved communities.
