The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially handed over 17 gold bars, worth $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) at a ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The gold was seized at the Paga Border Post by officers from NACOC’s Upper East Regional Command. Two Burkinabe nationals were caught trying to smuggle the gold out of the country. They have since been charged with offences related to illegal transportation and dealing in gold.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, assured the leadership of GoldBod of the Ministry’s full support in protecting Ghana’s gold resources.

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, thanked NACOC for its swift action and called for stronger collaboration between security agencies to fight illegal gold activities.

Also present at the ceremony were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan, the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, and other top officials from NACOC and GoldBod.
