The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Taskforce has carried out a major operation targeting illegal mining activities in Obuasi.
Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, the Taskforce stormed sections of Anyankyireml—a concession legally owned by Asanti Gold Corporation. The site had reportedly been taken over by illegal mining gangs from parts of Amansie, preventing the rightful owners from accessing their legitimate concession. The operation successfully secured the area and restored authority to the concession.

NAIMOS teams also moved to clamp down on illegal mining activities around the Obuasi Airport enclave, an area recently highlighted for rising galamsey activity. During the swoops, several items, including motorbikes, vehicles, and water pumps, were seized. Makeshift structures and mining equipment found onsite were destroyed to prevent further illegal operations.
Although many of the illegal miners fled upon spotting the Taskforce, one individual suspected to be a key organiser of the Obuasi galamsey operations was arrested. He is currently assisting police with investigations and is expected to be prosecuted.

NAIMOS says similar intelligence-led operations will continue across the region to reclaim critical lands, protect the environment, and dismantle galamsey networks.
