Government has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu Township and surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The curfew, announced by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and enacted on the advice of the National Security Council, will run daily from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint amid ongoing local challenges and to channel their energies through peaceful and non-violent means.
The statement also banned the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, warning that anyone found in violation will be arrested and prosecuted. Movement of motorbikes, wearing of smocks, selling of fuel in containers, and unlawful assemblies are also prohibited under the new measures.
The government said the curfew and accompanying restrictions are intended to restore calm and maintain public safety in the township.
