The National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, has reviewed the prices they pay for medicines to its health providers by a healthy percentage to stop illegal charges at the various health facilities.
This will take effect from next month July, 2022.
That aside, all aged from 70 years and above, pregnant women, children five years and below on the scheme can use the National Health Insurance Card to access healthcare immediately after renewing it.
The Chief Executive Officer of NHIS, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye made this public when he paid a two-day working visit to the Eastern Region to familiarize himself with the operations of the staff in the region.
Dr. Okoe Boye first point of visit was New Juaben South Municipal office of the scheme where he interacted with the staff and promised to address their challenges to enable them deliver on their mandate.
From there, he proceeded to Akropong District office of the scheme and also interacted with the staff and later paid a courtesy call on the Akwapimhene, Oseadeayo Kwasi Akufo Ababio at his palace.
There, he promised that a new office of the NHIS will be built soon in the area and appealed to the Chief to make land available for that purpose.
He said his outfit has introduced transformational five points strategy for the scheme. That is Digitalization, Development, Dissemination, Data and Decentralization to empower regions and districts to undertake enhanced administrative and financial roles with appropriate control and supervision.
He also paid a courtesy call on Akyem Abuakwahene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panini where they discussed issues of concern.
He mentioned some new diseases that government has enrolled onto the scheme.
