The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, says Ghana’s nuclear power will be a game changer for the country’s quest for cheap, reliable, and sustainable power for industrial growth.

Addressing participants at a day’s forum dubbed “Stakeholder Engagement on the Nuclear Power Ghana Limited (NPGL) Draft Bill”, held in Accra on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Mr. Edudzi Tameklo explained that the driver for Ghana’s industrial agenda is nuclear energy.

“I strongly believe that nuclear power for electricity generation will be the game changer for the Republic of Ghana,” the NPA CEO reiterated.

In another development, the Executive Director of Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG), Dr. Stephen Yamoah, offered a comprehensive presentation on the country’s nuclear journey, dating back to the early 1960s.

Dr. Yamoah chronicled key historical phases from 1963 to the present, spotlighting efforts made between 2007 and 2020, including technical collaborations, policy formulation, and feasibility studies.

He outlined the significant achievements in Phases One and Two, including site selection, infrastructure assessment, vendor evaluations, and the financing framework agreement between Ghana and the United States.

Dr. Yamoah detailed the institutional roles and core functions of NPGL, reaffirming Ghana’s readiness to move forward.

The Legal Advisor at Bui Power Authority, Franklin Nana Addai, who presented the NPGL draft Bill, provided key legal insights and highlighted areas requiring refinement.

The NPGL draft Bill outlines structural, operational, and governance frameworks for Ghana’s entry into nuclear power generation.

The Tuesday stakeholders’ engagement, organised by the NPG under the tutelage of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, marked a major step toward achieving Ghana’s nuclear energy ambitions.
