More than 80 percent of goods at the Odawna Market have been destroyed in the fire that gutted the market this dawn.

According to PRO of the Ghana National Fire Service, Elis Robinson Okoe, the extent of destruction of goods is as a result of difficulty in accessing the market.

Mr. Okoe denied claims that the first Fire Tender that arrived at the scene did not have water to douse the fire.

Meanwhile, the Director of Communications at NADMO, George Ayisi has rejected claims by the PRO of the Fire Service that the first Fire Tenders that responded to the Odawna Market fire incident had enough water.

Mr. Ayisi told GBC’s Nathaniel Nartey that he received reports from NADMO officials responding to the Odawna market fire that the fire tenders run out of water while fighting the fire, an indication that the tenders did not carry adequate.

Mr. Ayisi advised market women to consider going for insurance policies to enable them to revive their businesses in times of disaster. This is because NADMO is not mandated to provide capital to traders who fall victims to disaster.
