The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is scheduled to present a comprehensive report on the Bawku peace mediation process to President John Dramani Mahama today, December 16, as part of ongoing efforts to restore lasting stability in the area.
President Mahama earlier in 2025, tasked the Asantehene with leading mediation efforts to address the protracted chieftaincy dispute that has affected the Bawku municipality for several decades.
The mediation began in April, with Otumfuo engaging separately with leaders and representatives of the opposing sides as a preliminary step towards dialogue and confidence-building. After a short suspension, the talks resumed in May 2025 and have since contributed to a reduction in tensions, resulting in relative calm in the area.
The report is expected to provide an assessment of progress achieved, identify outstanding challenges, and propose recommendations to inform the next stage of government action towards sustainable peace in Bawku.
In the meantime, the Ghana Armed Forces have indicated that security in the area has been strengthened to support law enforcement and maintain stability while the mediation process continues.
