The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has intercepted a massive consignment of Tramadol Hydrochloride at Gbintri near Nalerigu, leading to the arrest of six suspects.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, September 18, 2025, uncovered 1,195 boxes of the restricted substance Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, popularly known as “Red.” Security officials revealed that the drugs were concealed inside one of two trucks, with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14, which had reportedly been loaded in Sankase in the Republic of Togo and were headed for Gbintri.
After a thorough search, the drugs were discovered hidden among other legitimate goods in the truck with registration GR 1712-16.
Police immediately secured the substances as evidence and placed the drivers and their accomplices under arrest. The suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu and Moses Ayorik, are all currently in custody.
Investigations so far indicate that the consignment was bound for Ayorik, who was expected to coordinate its onward delivery to another contact in Gushegu. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the scheme and are assisting police with further inquiries.
In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Robert Anabiik Anmain, the North East Regional Command reiterated its resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the area.
The statement stressed that the Command “remains resolute in its commitment to curbing the illicit drug trade, protecting public safety, and dismantling criminal networks that threaten the wellbeing of our people.”
Police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down others connected to the trafficking network. The Command has also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could aid security agencies in the fight against narcotics in the region.
The six suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
