Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has revealed that more than 115,000 applications have been received for the National Apprenticeship Programme, a flagship government initiative aimed at reducing youth unemployment through skills training.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra, on Monday August 4, 2025, the Minister noted that the applications were submitted across all districts, reflecting strong grassroots interest and national participation.
“The response from young people has been overwhelming. Receiving over 115,000 applications at the district level shows that the youth are eager for practical skills that can lead to decent employment,” Mr Opare Addo stated.
He explained that the National Apprenticeship Programme is structured to provide young Ghanaians with practical experience in various trades and crafts, as part of the broader Ghana Jobs and Skills Project.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with master craftsmen, industry stakeholders, and accredited training institutions. It seeks to create sustainable employment pathways and promote self-reliance among the country’s youth.
Details regarding placement and the commencement of training are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
