The Northern Regional Police Command, working in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, has arrested twenty-seven suspects in a large-scale operation targeting drug peddling networks across the region
The sustained nationwide crackdown, which focused on known drug hotspots in and around Tamale, resulted in the arrest of individuals identified in the police report as Iddrisu Abdul Bassit, Iddrisu Sadick, Yawuza Hishan, Yakubu Yussif, Alhassan Abukari, Mutaru Daniel Fisco, Ibrahim Abdul Wakil, Hawa Abdul Rahman, Latifa Iddrisu, Mariam Fuseini, Ibrahim Sadia, Alima Iddrisu, Issah Latifa and others yet to be fully identified.
Police say the coordinated swoops were conducted on 19th November 2025.
During the operation, officers recovered dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, carefully packaged in polythene bags. Five motorbikes believed to have been used to transport the drugs were also seized.
According to the Regional Police Command, additional arrests were made during follow-up operations across other parts of the Tamale metropolis, bringing the total number of suspects to twenty-seven.
All individuals have since been handed over to the Northern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit to support ongoing investigations.



On Friday, 21st November 2025, nine of the suspects, comprising five females and four males, were arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court on charges of unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.
Another suspect faced charges relating to unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. All ten pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the court.

The remaining eighteen suspects are currently on remand as police continue their investigations into what authorities describe as a coordinated effort to dismantle drug distribution networks operating in the region.
