Police probe suspected targeted shooting at Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a shooting incident that occurred on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

A statement signed and issued by the Head of the Ashanti Central Regional Police, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, said preliminary investigations into the incident indicate that the victim, a middle-aged man, was shot by two unidentified assailants.

It said the suspects, each riding on a motorbike, reportedly approached the victim and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.

According to the statement, the victim was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital for emergency medical care but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In response to the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, and other officers of the command have visited the crime scene as part of the investigation.

It said the police officers found empty cartridges suspected to have been fired from an AK-47 rifle.

The team of police officers also visited the bereaved family to console them and assure them of the Police’s commitment to pursue the perpetrators to ensure they face the law.

Meanwhile, the body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.
