Ghana Police Service has gunned down one of the armed robbers suspected to be part of the gang that shot and killed two Police officers in Zuarungu, capital of the Bolgatanga East district of the Upper East Region. The incident happened last week within the Central Business district of Zuarungu. But at a media briefing by relatives of the deceased in Sheaga, a community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, they said their relative is innocent.

In a statement on the Ghana Police Service social media page, the Police said a special anti-robbery squad, assisted by the Upper East Regional Police Command through an intelligence-led special anti-robbery operation in Kpatia in the Talensi District have gunned down suspect Laamyaame Simon alias Yendu aged 34, one of the three suspected armed robbers who callously murdered two Police officers at Zuarungu.

The Police said a special targeted intelligence-led operation is being carried out to get the rest of the suspects arrested. At a press conference at Sheaga in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, the chiefs and people of the area appealed to government through the IGP, to constitute an independent investigation committee to probe the killing and make sure opinion leaders form part of the constituted committee.

The Assemblymember for Sheaga Electoral Area in the Talensi District, Michael Zoogah, said the innocent man killed is known to everyone in the community as a very humble, a peacemaker and breadwinner of his extended family. He said he has no criminal record in any form.

Mr. Zoogah appealed to government through the IGP to further investigate.
