The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has shot dead three suspected armed robbers to prevent a planned highway attack along the Anwiankwanta–Obuasi Highway.
The suspects, named Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila (also known as Tijani), were confronted by police on 24 December 2025 while preparing for the robbery. Officers said they came under gunfire and returned fire, killing the three suspects. Two others escaped.
Police recovered firearms, including pump action guns and a pistol, with ammunition from the scene. The suspects were taken to Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The gang is believed to have carried out several robberies in the region, including attacks at Jacobu airport and along the Manso stretch. Police are continuing operations to trace weapons sources and arrest remaining accomplices.
