Thirty-six (36) bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, intercepted on September 30, 2025 along the Sekesua Road near Koforidua in the Eastern Region, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigation and laboratory testing.
The substances were being transported in a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23, partially filled with sawdust, in an attempt to conceal the suspected narcotics. According to Police reports, the driver and his mate managed to escape from the scene, abandoning the truck during the search operation.

The police say efforts are currently underway to locate and re-arrest the two suspects.
On September 30, 2025, a search conducted on a truck partially filled with sawdust led to the discovery of thirty-six (36) sacks of dry substances suspected to be narcotics. The vehicle was subsequently impounded and transported to the Sekesua Police Station. However, the driver and his mate escaped, abandoning the truck.
Contrary to media reports that the seized substances had mysteriously turned into sawdust, the Ghana Police Service has refuted the allegations. The Police say the impounded truck and the 36 sacks of suspected narcotics were initially retained at the Eastern Regional Command but have been transferred to the Police Headquarters for further investigation.
The Police has assured the public that thorough investigations are underway and that intensified efforts are being made to re-arrest the two suspects who are currently on the run. The Police Professional Standards Bureau has launched an internal investigation into the handling of the case to ensure transparency and accountability.
