The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, says a full-scale investigation has commenced into an alleged scuffle between some suspected illegal miners and police personnel at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to others, as seen in a viral video circulating on social media.

He assured the public that the matter will be pursued to its logical conclusion.

He further assured that any persons found to have acted unlawfully will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

In a statement signed and issued electronically in Kumasi, the Regional Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Dr. Amoakohene, emphasized that government remains fully committed to supporting the police and all security agencies in the execution of their lawful duties to protect lives, property, and public peace.

The Regional Minister urged all citizens to, at all times, cooperate fully with law enforcement officers and not disregard lawful orders, cautioning that citizens should, under no circumstances, confront the police or engage in actions that threaten public safety, as has been seen in the circulating videos.

While commending the Ghana Police Service for their continued efforts in maintaining law and order, the REGSEC Chairman expressed sincere condolences to the bereaved family and sympathized with all persons affected by the incident, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Dr. Amoakohene appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and all stakeholders to support efforts to restore calm and ensure that lawful processes are respected at all times.
