The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation after a police officer was assaulted by a commercial tricycle rider in Garu.
According to police, the incident occurred on October 6, 2025, during a stop-and-search operation on the Garu–Nakpanduri road. The officer and some Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were checking vehicles when they stopped a tricycle carrying sacks of groundnuts with passengers sitting on top.
When the officer instructed the rider to park properly for inspection, the man became violent, physically attacked him, and then sped off on his tricycle.
Police say a manhunt is underway to find the suspect so he can face the full force of the law.
