The Accra Regional Police Command says it is investigating a number of isolated incidents of violence and assault that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run held on Friday, July 11, 2025.

According to a statement signed by Supt. Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Regional Command, the incidents led to temporary disruptions at some polling stations, though voting resumed shortly after police intervention.

“Preliminary reports indicate that these incidents caused temporary disruptions to the otherwise peaceful conduct of the election in some polling stations. Police officers intervened promptly to restore calm and ensure voting continued without further interruptions,” the statement said.

Police say efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend individuals who were involved in acts of violence, intimidation, or disturbances during the electoral process.

“The Regional Command is taking steps to identify perpetrators, and anyone found to have engaged in acts of violence, intimidation, or breach of the peace will be arrested and taken through the due process of law,” the statement added.

The Police are appealing to the public to volunteer credible information to assist in ongoing investigations. Anyone with knowledge of the incidents or those involved is encouraged to call emergency numbers 18555 or 191.

The parliamentary re-run in Ablekuma North, conducted across 19 polling stations, followed a stalemate in the December 2024 general elections due to reported irregularities.

Despite the isolated disruptions, the Electoral Commission successfully concluded the vote, with Ewurabena Aubyn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerging as the MP-elect.
