The Bono East Regional Police Command has returned a bag containing GHC 85,000 to its rightful owner after officers discovered it at a snap checkpoint along the Techiman–Kumasi highway.
Police said the bag was found in the early hours of February 14, 2026, at about 04:20 a.m., when officers on duty noticed it lying by the roadside and suspected it had fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag, which bore the name “Ofori” and a contact number, was retrieved by officers led by Inspector George Appiah.
Upon inspection, the officers realised the bag contained a large sum of money and handed it over to the Regional Command for further verification.
Police contacted the number written on the bag, which led them to 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Kumasi, who later reported to the checkpoint to claim ownership.

Mr Ofori explained that the money had been withdrawn from GCB Bank in Wa and was being transported to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when it went missing.
The amount was counted and verified in his presence, after which police released the GH¢85,000 to him following satisfactory confirmation of ownership.
The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the professionalism of the officers involved and the cooperation of members of the public who assisted in drawing attention to the bag.
