Management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) is pleading with residents in the Northern region to desist from engaging in bush burning and felling of trees close to electrical conductors in order to protect life and properties.
This will also prevent unnecessary power outages during this harmattan and Christmas season in the area.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Manager for Corporate Communications of NEDCo, Maxwell Kotoka.
The statement said the harmattan wind and the dry weather are triggers of bush fires, stressing that these fires burn down electric poles and in some cases, cause trees, TV poles, and rip-off roofs of buildings to fall on electrical conductors and wires.
The situation, the statement said, causes unplanned power outages and endanger lives and properties.
It therefore appealed to the public to promptly report incidents of burning poles and fallen electrical conductors to the nearest NEDCo office, assuring the public that a team of engineers are available to handle such situations.
