The office of the president has described as premature a petition by pressure group Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), calling for the removal of the Chief Justice.
In a letter, the president explained that there has not been any appointment of a committee to inquire into the petition submitted by ASEPA.
ASEPA had earlier petitioned the president to remove Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah for being cited in a $5 million bribery allegation. However, responding to the petition in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary of the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, it says the Presidency is not aware of any law, rule or practice that requires a petitioner to be furnished with what it described as vital information and, therefore, it could not have been contemplated that the information ASEPA requested in its letter could have been made available to them.
The statement explains that the President is yet to constitute a committee to inquire into the petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice.
Pressure Group Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA,) is asking for the removal of the Chief Justice insisting he is not fit to hold office.
The Chief Justice (CJ) has been in the news in recent weeks following allegations by a private legal practitioner Akwasi Afrifa that he had requested a five-million-dollar bribe to deliver a favorable judgment in a case involving his client.
The Chief Justice has since denied the allegations and asked the Police CID to probe the matter.
ASEPA contends the CJ is unfit to hold office and wants him removed.
