President John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra today, Thursday, 8th January 2026.
The visit forms part of the President’s engagement with key state institutions to reaffirm government’s commitment to strengthening the public sector.
The President’s visit to GBC is meant to acquaint himself with GBC’s operations as a Public Service Broadcaster and find ways to help GBC’s public service march international standards.
President Mahama was received by the Director-General of GBC, members of management, and staff of the Corporation. He toured some of the Corporation’s facilities, including studios and transmission units, and interacted with journalists and technical staff.
One of the key departments the President visited and the first one he went to, is the Digital Center which handles GBCs online presence.
The GBC online portal has become very popular among online News sources in Ghana. The Director General praised the department’s operations as one which has become the nerve centre of GBC’s operations in the digital era.
Addressing workers, the President commended GBC for its role in national development and for providing credible and reliable information to the Ghanaian public over the years.
He assured the Corporation of the government’s support to improve infrastructure, enhance its operations in the new era of broadcasting and protect its editorial independence.
The Director-General of GBC, on behalf of management and staff, expressed gratitude to the President for the visit and stated that it was of historical significance, being the first by a sitting President since the 1960s.
The Director General outlined some challenges facing the Corporation, including issues with GBC’s finances, equipment upgrades, and staff capacity building.
President Mahama encouraged staff to remain committed to professionalism, accuracy, and national unity in their work.
