President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence, describing the country’s religious and cultural diversity as its greatest strength.
At the 2026 Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Independence Square in Accra, the President highlighted Ghana’s long-standing tradition of harmony between Muslims and Christians, noting that both groups actively participate in each other’s celebrations. He urged citizens to reject extremism, intolerance and division, and instead embrace dialogue, mutual respect and peace to safeguard national stability.
“Our diversity of faith and culture is not a weakness but our strength,” he said, stressing that unity must remain a priority for national development.
Reflecting on the significance of Eid al-Fitr, President Mahama encouraged Muslims to carry forward the values of Ramadan discipline, compassion, generosity and humility into their daily lives.
He noted that Eid is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity to reinforce kindness, justice and integrity within communities.
On governance, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, outlining key priorities such as improving access to education, creating jobs for the youth, strengthening healthcare systems, investing in infrastructure and supporting underserved communities, particularly in Zongo areas.
He emphasised that national progress requires collective effort, urging citizens to contribute actively to Ghana’s development.
Touching on global issues, President Mahama expressed concern over ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and called for prayers for peace and wisdom among world leaders. He reiterated Ghana’s commitment to promoting peace, justice and respect for international law.
He also encouraged acts of generosity during the festive period, urging Muslims to support the vulnerable and extend kindness to those in need.
The President concluded with prayers for peace, unity and prosperity for Ghana, wishing Muslims a blessed Eid and praying for the acceptance of their acts of worship.
