A member of the Ashanti Regional School Feeding caterers, Dorothy Ofori Sarpong has alleged underpayment of school feeding caterers and called for an investigation.

According to Madam Dorothy Ofori Sarpong, they cooked for the students during the Covid-19 era but they have since not been paid even though the government has released funds for their payment.

She added that the School Feeding Secretariat owes them 3 terms of which they recently made part payment.

“The government said they have increased school feeding per head to 2 Cedis. For about 2 years now, we are still experiencing the 97 Pesewas. That one too they have reduced it so the money was just not enough for us to accept”, she disclosed.

She also called on government to increase the school feeding fee per head to 3 Cedis.

“The government should come in and investigate the underpayment and we need an increment from 97 Pesewas to 3 Cedis or the government should communicate to us”, she added.

On April 4, 2023, some caterers of the School Feeding Programme stormed the office of the Ashanti Regional Minister to register their displeasure at the delay in payment of their arrears.

However, according to Madam Sarpong, the Minister was not available to receive their petition.
