The Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has rolled out a PSWU Fund and a Mutual Health Insurance Scheme for its members.
This is in response to the resolution of members on welfare issues passed at the 10th Quadrennial Delegates Conference held last year and subsequently incorporated into the PSWU Strategic Plan.
Speaking at the launch of the Scheme in Kumasi, the National Chairman of the PSWU, Ken Kodua urged members not to worry about the deductions and focus on the benefits available to them.
Effective this month, two per cent of the salaries of members of the Public Services Workers Union will be deducted at source for the operationalization of the PSWU Fund.
The objective of the PSWU Fund is to help address the welfare needs of members, including granting of soft loans, hire purchase, and assist members to save towards retirement with an appreciable annual compound interest on savings.
The PSWU Mutual Health Insurance Scheme is designed to address the health needs of its members, while in active service and during retirement.
Members automatically benefit from the critical illness fund under the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme and that no deductions will be made for that Scheme.
Beneficiaries of the Scheme will have a portion of the dues used to service the Critical Illness Fund to service some life-threatening illnesses like kidney disease, heart attack, stroke or cancer.
Speaking at the launch of the two schemes in Kumasi, the National Chairman of the Public Service Workers Union, Ken Kodua explained that the fund is very important and critical to public sector workers.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Trade Union Congress, Joshua Ansah, commended the efforts of the leadership and entire members of the PSWU for supporting the establishment of PSWU Fund and Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.
The Chief Operation Officer of Nationwide Medical Insurance, Samuel Boafo, assured members of the PSWU of quality healthcare care services.
