Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Publishing Company (GPC), Nana Kwesi Boatey, has stated that publishers are often too committed to the arts and tend to think less about commercialisation.
He said it is unfortunate that publishers have not benefited enough from the sacrifices they make.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary launch and logo unveiling of the Ghana Publishers Association in Accra, Mr Boatey noted that although there is a need for Ghanaians to preserve their stories by telling them themselves, it is equally important to ensure those stories reach readers.
Mr Boatey encouraged publishers to “partner with people who know how to sell your stories and make you rich. I have no doubt that many William Shakespeares have emerged from Ghana.”
