The Parliament of Ghana has honoured Rachel Quartey, a Parliamentary Correspondent with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, in recognition of her distinguished and dedicated coverage of parliamentary proceedings over the years.

The honour was conferred at the Parliament Media Soirée and Recognition Night 2025, an event organised to celebrate media professionals whose work has enhanced transparency, public understanding, and trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.

Ms. Quartey, who has reported on Parliament for nearly nine years, was commended for her professionalism, accuracy, and balanced reporting in her work for the state broadcaster. Her reporting has focused on simplifying complex legislative processes, breaking down bills debated in Parliament, and providing fair and factual accounts of parliamentary business.

Presenting the plaque and citation on behalf of Parliament, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, praised Ms. Quartey’s enduring contribution to public service journalism.

The citation read in part:

“In acknowledgment of your distinguished career as a beacon of journalistic excellence in public service broadcasting, where you have delivered incisive, balanced, and authoritative coverage of parliamentary proceedings and activities. Your work has echoed across homes, demystifying the complexities of legislation, amplifying the debates that shape our nation, and holding the torch of transparency high.”

It further noted that her consistent and reliable reporting has chronicled critical moments in Ghana’s parliamentary history, from landmark legislation to spirited plenary debates, setting what Parliament described as a “gold standard for national broadcasting” and reinforcing the media’s role as the Fourth Estate in governance.

Receiving the award, Ms. Quartey expressed gratitude to Parliament and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, describing parliamentary reporting as one of the most demanding beats in journalism.

“Reporting on Parliament requires deep understanding of parliamentary language and procedure. A journalist must report fairly and accurately to avoid being perceived as partisan,” she said.

She also emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professionalism in covering legislative affairs, noting that accuracy and balance remain essential in sustaining public confidence in parliamentary reporting.

The Parliament Media Soirée and Recognition Night forms part of efforts by the Parliament of Ghana to strengthen relations with the media and acknowledge journalists whose work contributes to accountability and democratic governance.
