Raymond Atuguba replaces Justice B.Y.K. Oppong as Director of Legal Education at Ghana Legal Council

A former Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, Professor Raymond Akongburo Atuguba, has been appointed Acting Director of Legal Education.

Justice B.Y.K. Oppong of the Court of Appeal’s replacement was announced at the General Legal Council (GLC); thus, Prof. Atuguba’s appointment officially takes effect September 1, 2025.

Acting Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

His appointment follows a directive from Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie recalling Justice Oppong from the position to resume full duties on the bench.

In a letter dated August 8, 2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie thanked Justice Oppong for his “significant contribution” to professional legal education, while indicating that a search party will be constituted to appoint a substantive Director.

“I wish to thank you for the significant contribution you made to professional legal education during your time as Director of Legal Education,” Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stated.
