The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says a swift response by its crew and members of the public helped prevent further casualties after a head-on collision on Patrice Lumumba Street in Accra on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
The crash involved a DAF articulator truck (GT 2354-12) and a Ford Transit minibus (GG 2863-22) in the Airport Residential Area.
According to a GNFS post on Facebook, the distress call was received at 11:51 a.m., and a crew was dispatched immediately, arriving at 12:00 p.m. By the time firefighters reached the scene, passersby had already rescued all 14 passengers from the minibus and sent them to the 37 Military Hospital.
The GNFS team, led by ADO I Yakubu, then worked to free the trapped minibus driver, completing the extrication within 10 minutes.
The National Ambulance Service later transported the injured driver to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment, while the truck driver and his assistant escaped without injuries.
The GNFS said the quick intervention by both the public and emergency responders helped avert more serious outcomes.
