A member of the New Patriotic Party communications team, Dr. Ezekiel Agyekum-Obeng, has added his voice to growing public complaints over Ghana’s struggling public transport system.
The issues, which have intensified in recent days, include persistent delays, long queues, and a shortage of buses during rush hours, leaving commuters stranded and frustrated.
In response to the crisis, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang engaged with leadership of the transport ministry and driver unions to find solutions. She assured commuters that plans are underway to procure high-occupancy buses to ease congestion and improve public transport.
The Vice President said President John Mahama has directed that support be extended to Metro Mass Transit, Aayalolo, and private transport operators through the provision of new buses.
Adding his voice, Dr. Agyekum-Obeng highlighted the wider impact on Ghanaians’ daily lives. He said many commuters are spending more time on the roads than at their workplaces, arriving tired and stressed, with a toll on productivity and well-being.
“The time spent on roads is impacting health, with people getting home late, eating, and sleeping with undigested food,” he said on GBC’s Weekly Press Review on Friday, January 16, 2026.
He called for a paradigm shift in how Ghanaians view the transport system, emphasizing the need for change to improve daily lives.
