Former Member Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dickson Adomako Kissi, has called for intensified intelligence work and visible investigations into the Bawku conflict, saying security responses must go beyond shoot-to-kill operations.

“We should see serious investigative work going on,” he said on GBC’s ‘Focus‘ programme on July 30, 2025. “Let the Ghanaian people see drones at work. Let’s use every imaginable means to arrest the people behind these crimes.”

The former MP said those who attacked Bawku Senior High School in the conflict zone must be tracked down and prosecuted with urgency. “That was a crime within war,” he stated. “When a policeman is shot, the police find the person in 24 hours. Why can’t we do the same here?”

He urged government to invest more in intelligence gathering, possibly seeking support from foreign counterintelligence and spy networks. He said doing this, could shift the narrative and enhance better security.

Warning that the violence is no longer confined to Bawku, he cited the recent killing of the Kusasi chief in the Ashanti Region as evidence that the crisis is spreading. “These are not isolated issues,” he said.

The former member of parliament also pushed for better training of security personnel to prevent human rights abuses, particularly against women in conflict zones.

The renewed tensions in Bawku have seen a worrying escalation, with unknown assailants reportedly shooting a student of Bawku Senior High School on 26th July 2025. As it stands no arrests have been made with a relative of the deceased alleging the killing may be connected to the long standing conflict in Bawku.
