Seven dead, ten injured in fatal crash on Nkawkaw–Accra Highway

A fatal road accident on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, claimed seven lives and left ten others injured at Nkawanda No. 2 on the Nkawkaw–Accra Highway.

The crash, which occurred at about 1:45 p.m., involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus (AW 4619-14) and a MAN Diesel cargo truck (GN 114-21).

According to the Nkawkaw Fire Station, which received a distress call and arrived at the scene at 2:00 p.m., the collision was severe. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter was completely mangled, while the truck was partially damaged.

Tragically, seven occupants of the Sprinter bus died instantly. Among the deceased were two boys, one girl, and four women.

Meanwhile, ten victims, including the driver and mate of the MAN Diesel truck, sustained varios degrees of injury. They were rushed by bystanders to the Holy Family Hospital and Kenop Hospital in Nkawkaw for treatment.

The rescue team secured the scene, preserved the dignity of the deceased, and handed the matter over to police investigators.

Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The incident has renewed concerns about safety on the busy Nkawkaw–Accrathe Highway, a stretch notorious for frequent road crashes.
