Ghanaians unhappy about ¢5 surcharge in accessing SIM card re-registration app

A cross-section of Ghanaians in Accra, have expressed misgivings about the two months extension of the sim card re-registration exercise.

Many of them welcomed the move, but are unhappy about the difficult process of acquiring the Ghana card which is the basic registration document.

Speaking in an interview with GBC NEWS, it came up that more room should be given for majority of Ghanaians to acquire the cards before considering the deadline.

On the SIM Registration App which will attract a 5-cedi surcharge, they asked relevant authorities to take a second look at the decision.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of Momo Agents Association of Ghana, Evans Otumfuor has called on the National Identification Authority to as a matter of urgency decentralise the process to fast-track the acquisition of National Identification Cards to allow those who have not re-registered their SIMs to do so with ease.

Speaking to GBC NEWS following the extension of the deadline for Sim re-registration, Mr. Otumfuor said failure to register SIM will not only affect individuals’ businesses but also government revenue.

In a related development, Most residents within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have expressed their displeasure about the extension of the SIM card re-registration exercise to September 30 as a result of the hassle they went through just to get their SIM cards registered.

The Exercise, which was scheduled to end on July 31, has been extended again following consultations with industry stakeholders.

This comes after many Ghanaians besieged telecommunication outlets across the country in a desperate attempt to register their SIM cards ahead of the second deadline on Sunday, July 31.

Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Twin City Radio News in Sekondi others also were elated as the extension will give them the opportunity to get their SIM cards registered.

They are of the belief that the introduction of the self-SIM registration app it will help to relieve Ghanaians of the stress they have to go through.
